Santiago Pep & Cheer is recognized as a sports activity that runs the entire school year. The team’s main duty is to promote school spirit. Members make posters, lead cheers at school sporting events, help with and perform at pep rallies and participate in community events and fundraising. Our program is demanding both in time and talent, and we expect you to maintain the highest GPA you are capable of. Being a member of the pep program is an honor and can bring many fine rewards. It can help members strive to reach their fullest potential.
Specifics
- The 2025-2026 Pep & Cheer program will consist of one team, composed of 6th, 7th and/or 8th grade students.
- All students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be eligible to try out and stay on the team.
- After-school practice is MANDATORY and other clubs, doctor appointments, haircuts, homework and life in general must be planned around our schedule. Crowdleading at football games, basketball games and other sporting events as assigned are also mandatory. Failure to attend practice or assigned games, unless previously notified, will result in consequences. The specific consequences will be discussed post-tryouts. However, this can include becoming benched from practices/performances and possibly removal from the team. Practices are currently after school Monday's 2:30-4:00 and Wednesday's 1:30-3:00. Tournaments and fundraisers are typically held on a Saturday's.
- This is an expensive program to run. To have uniforms, equipment, supplies, training etc. we must have money to pay for these items. We ask for your help through active participation in fundraising. Our program does not function without your support. Suggestions for increasing our fiscal strength are always welcome! Specific breakdowns will be available at the post-try-out meeting.
- Our program is built on a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Athletes will be held accountable for this. If the commitment level, work ethic, and a respectful and positive attitude are a problem, the member will be removed from our program. Please work with us and encourage your student athlete to possess these traits. A coachable athlete is an employable adult.
- You can participate in a sport. However, it is likely you will have to sit out of cheering for that tournament. You will still be held accountable for your practice responsibilities.
