AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges.  The formula is simple—raise expectations of students, and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge.

Grading Scale:

10% Participation

25% AVID Binder/Cornell Notes

--You will bring the following supplies every day to class:  a 3-ring binder with enough paper and dividers, planner, pens and pencils.

--You are expected to take notes in all of your academic classes.

--Binder checks will be weekly.

20% Tutorials 

--Tutorials will take place twice a week.

--The AVID tutorial form will be your AVID homework

45% AVID Writing, AVID Projects

--You will participate in Philosophical Chairs and Socratic Seminars

--You will take notes during guest speaker presentations

--You will complete AVID projects and activities

--You will complete an academic resume, including essays

*All School rules apply in AVID.  Tardies will be enforced.  Late work will be worth 50% credit.  No cell phones during instructional time.  You have the number of days you were absent to make up any missing work.  

Students with disabilities who might need modifications, special assistance, or accommodations in this course should promptly direct their requests to the teacher, case carrier, or counselor on campus.
